SUMMARY:Black Bottom Film Festival: Film Submission
DESCRIPTION:EMPOWERING ARTISTIC EXPRESSION THROUGH FILM \nSubmission Deadlines\nFebruary 17\, 2023\nEarlybird Deadline \nMay 19\, 2023\nRegular Deadline \nAugust 18\, 2023\nLate Deadline \nSubmit Your Film \nBlack Bottom Film Festival-August Wilson African American Cultural Center proudly accepts entries on FilmFreeway\, the world’s #1 way to enter film festivals and creative contests. \n\nThe August Wilson African American Cultural Center (AWAACC) is a performing arts center\, named for Pulitzer Prize winning playwright\, and Pittsburgh native\, August Wilson. Our programming focuses on exhibiting and celebrating art and expression from Black culture across the African diaspora. \nFrom age-old classics to contemporary work\, the Black Bottom Film Festival (BBFF) illuminates and celebrates African American cinema and uniqueness of Black people on film. The festival screens short and feature films rooted in the recurring themes of spirituality\, race\, family conflict\, honor\, duty and the struggle of the working-class; themes ever-present in August Wilson’s American Century Cycle plays. In particular\, the festival celebrates African American filmmaking pioneers and history makers. The BBFF fosters an examination of how Black filmmakers use art to inspire\, challenge\, confront\, and influence American culture. \nThe August Wilson African American Cultural Center believes that creativity is boundless. We invite you to share your creativity on film with us.

SUMMARY:A Taste Of the American Century
DESCRIPTION:Closing out the first season of Beyond the Red Door: a theatrical event series\, we invite you into a unique\, foodie experience in “A Taste of the American Century” on Wednesday\, April 26th at 5:30pm at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center. \nRecipes are stories and histories; they are a passing on of culture\, love\, and memory. Because of this\, August Wilson featured many historically Black recipes and businesses throughout his plays. \nThe AWAACC café will transform to host an experiential dinner featuring food and dessert mentioned throughout August Wilson’s American Century Cycle. The evening will have a demonstration featuring local Chef Mike Barnes of RouxOrleans’ special take on recipes highlighted in the American Century Cycle. \nAbout Chef Mike Barnes of RouxOrleans \nNew Orleans native who moved to Pittsburgh’s East End in 2014 with his family. While he worked in restaurants throughout his life\, Chef Mike “BIG EZ” Barnes realized that he could add his own flavor to the ‘Burgh through his food. He created Roux Orleans in 2017 to bring Southern Cajun/Creole flavors up North. Chef EZ has worked in several kitchens\, including his Grandmothers over the past 3 decades in Louisiana and Texas perfecting knife skills and flavor profiles from some of the best chefs in Louisiana. With Roux Orleans\, Chef EZ is able to bring some of his home-grown passion to a new city while focusing on developing the communities around him through job creation.
