SUMMARY:Storytime Spotlight
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Storytime Spotlight with Helen Smith and her book “My Hair Ain’t Nappy” moderated by Cathryn Calhoun. \nMy Hair Ain’t Nappy portrays a young girl who loves her natural beauty and embraces a variety of looks that she achieves with her hair. The author is passionate about encouraging Black children to love and accept their natural hair. My Hair Ain’t Nappy was intended for Black children\, but it can help all children appreciate and celebrate their own uniqueness. The main character\, Amara\, is a confident little girl who loves her natural hair and encourages others to do the same by providing Black children with alternative words and ways that describe the beautiful hair they are naturally blessed with. \n\nStorytime Spotlight is an educational series presented by the August Wilson African American Cultural Center that introduces young children to books that features stories\, songs\, rhymes\, and fingerplays. This series highlights Black and Brown children’s book authors and will feature conversations and a live reading with the author. \nStorytime Spotlight Series is moderated by Cathryn Calhoun\, Director of Education and Community Engagement at AWAACC.
