Human Resources (HR) Generalist (Contracted)
The August Wilson African American Cultural Center is located at the gateway of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Cultural District. The Center, named for Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, and Pittsburgh native, August Wilson, showcases nationally and internationally renowned performing and visual artists, as well as supports and nurtures the burgeoning local arts community. This programming connects the community as a whole to the rich, substantive artistic content that reflects the African Diaspora.
The August Wilson African American Cultural Center offers multiple exhibition galleries, a 492-seat theater for performances in all genres, and multipurpose spaces for classes, lectures and hands-on learning, community programs, and events. The Center is housed in an iconic building designed by award-winning architect, Alison Williams. Offering the community, a distinctive mix of cultural spaces as well as a rehearsal studio, sweeping walkways, and ample community gathering and meeting spaces, this bold facility serves as a true “center,” a place of coming together where all manner of art, artistic expression, and community conversation is welcomed and encouraged.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The AWAACC needs an experienced HR Generalist to recruit, hire, and train new employees, answer employee questions, and suggest/implement new policies and practices. This position will report to the President & CEO and is a contracted position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee and manage employee performance evaluations in collaboration with the management team
- Ensure employee compliance with all company policies and state/federal laws and regulations
- Establish personal, and professional relationships with all employees in a trustworthy and open manner
- Create and maintain a welcoming environment for all employees
- Maintain private employee records and update as needed
- Update AWAACC policies and benefits package
- Facilitate communication between management/department heads and employees
- Educate employees on AWAACC benefits
- Evaluate and assist underperforming employees via customized performance improvement planning
- Assist management with any necessary corrective action as needed
- Assist management and department heads with conflict resolution and accidents
- Communicate new initiatives and changes to management, department heads, and executive board
- Develop and conduct employee training as needed
CORE QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor in human resources management
- Preferred 5 years HR experience, minimum 3 years
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- PHR certification preferred
