If you are looking for a unique and functional facility for your next event, the August Wilson African American Cultural Center is a great option! We have put together a comprehensive guide to help make your venue rental experience smooth and stress-free.

AWAACC Rental Policies: Types of Events Permitted

At the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, we have specific policies for our facility, which includes what types of events our facility is available for. It is our policy to reserve our facility for community and artistic enrichment purposes only.

Our facility is not available for events such as religious services and political events or meetings, and at this time wedding events and social parties cannot be accommodated due to our staff limitations and programming guidelines.

Events at our facility are expected to harmonize with the mission and the character of the AWAACC and must be in conformance with our established regulations.

How to Get Started with Your Rental

Our unique facility can be rented from January 2nd to December 31st and are rented on a first-come, first-serve basis. You can schedule a visit to see our facility Monday through Thursday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, and we ask that you schedule your visit to our facility a week in advance.

After you have visited our facility, you can complete a rental inquiry on our website, which must be submitted 45 days before your event date. The rental request is reviewed internally to determine if your event meets our criteria, and if it does, we will contact you to discuss your rental in further details.

Once your event is confirmed, we will send a contract to you which will entail pricing and pertinent event information. Your balance and insurance documents will be due 30 days before your event. To help you keep your event on track, we will provide you with a timeline with the AWAACC agreement.

What to Know Before Your Event

As a home for the arts, we permit you to display artwork in one of the three galleries for your event. If you would like to display your artwork temporarily outside of the galleries for your event, we ask that you provide the shelves, easels, or display apparatuses needed to showcase your work.

At the AWAACC, we understand that food and drink are an essential part of any event. We do permit you to bring in outside catering of your choice, but you will be charged a $500 fee and will need to have your catering company provide the proper licenses and insurance. We also offer a list of preferred catering companies that we have worked with in the past and recommend for your event.

Marketing for your event is a crucial element. If you wish to use our logo on any of your event marketing materials, our marketing team must approve the logo inclusion before being made public.
