Step into the American Century Cycle

Join us for “Step Into the American Century Cycle” on September 24^th. The second floor of the AWAACC transforms into never-before-seen venues from August Wilson’s acclaimed American Century Cycle in an immersive and interactive event.

First, step into Seefus’, a fictional underground gaming joint set in 1918 where you can grab a beverage, relax, learn to play a vintage game, and more.  Across the hall, you will find The Blue Goose, a fictional Blues and Jazz club set in 1948. Throughout the day, The Blue Goose hosts performances by a trio of musicians and a powerhouse singer.

Between Seefus’ and The Blue Goose, the 2^nd-floor hallway becomes a small street fair set in the 1920s and 1930s featuring local Pittsburgh artists selling their work, vendors selling food, and free popcorn and cotton candy.

This event will have sign language interpreters available all day.

The day will be split into two sessions:

 “Family Fun” from 12pm-4pm

Geared toward family friendly activities and games from the period such as Monopoly, Go Fish, Shuffleboard, Beanbag Toss, Checkers, and Bid Whist. There will also be a teaching artist leading games throughout the afternoon at Seefus’, trivia, raffle prizes, and musical performances in The Blue Goose. During the afternoon, there will be a variety of beverages, water and snacks available as well as alcohol for sale (with wristbands).

• 12:15pm – Seefus’ group activity for kids of all ages

• 12:30pm – Seefus’ August Wilson trivia (there will be prizes!)

• 1:00pm – Live music in the Blue Goose

• 1:45pm – Seefus’ group activity for kids of all ages

• 2:30pm – Live music in the Blue Goose

• 3:15 – Seefus’ group activity for kids of all ages

• 3:30pm – Seefus’ August Wilson trivia (there will be prizes!)

 

 “After-Hours Cocktails” from 7pm-11pm

For adults only (Ages 21+). The night will feature a cadre of games at Seefus’ like trivia, raffle prizes, cards for Bid Whist, Spades, and Gin Rummy, Monopoly, Go Fish, Shuffleboard, Beanbag toss, Checkers, Mancala, and Dominoes as well as musical performances in The Blue Goose. Free popcorn and cotton candy. Free drink tickets for the first 50 attendees. Signature cocktails, wine, and beer are available for purchase all evening.

• 8:00pm – Live music in the Blue Goose

• 8:45pm – Seefus’ group activity

• 9:30pm – Live music in the Blue Goose

• 10:30pm – Seefus’ August Wilson trivia (there will be prizes!)
