An exhibition spotlighting intergenerational connection

From neighborhood sidewalks to living rooms and front porches, Pittsburghers of all ages are telling their stories in Picture This. Featuring vibrant photos by renowned Pittsburgh photographers, personal recordings, and interactive activations, this new exhibition reveals the power of connecting across generations. This uplifting all-ages exhibition is free and open to the public!

Picture a neighborhood where generations don’t just coexist, they connect!

Picture This is the collaborative culmination of Age-Friendly’s advocacy campaign to combat social isolation and ageism and features large-scale photography drawn from the Age-Inclusive Photo Bank, showcasing vibrant, honest portraits of friendship and connection captured across four counties by celebrated local photographers, including Pulitzer Prize winner Martha Rial and photojournalist Nate Smallwood. The exhibition goes beyond passive viewing, offering multiple ways to participate:

Get Nebby Corner: Pick up a retro telephone and “Get Nebby” by listening to audio stories from neighbors in Beechview, McKeesport, Sharpsburg, Washington and Westmoreland County, sharing personal thoughts on social connection.

Make Your Connection Bench: Take a seat on this intentional space, designed to encourage a momentary stop and a shared conversation with someone new.

Digital Archive: Explore the campaign’s digital archive and add your own stories and photos.
