From graffiti tags to public murals, participants will discover hip hop’s visual language and design their own bold artistic statements.

PITTSBURGH, PA (October 2025) The August Wilson African American Cultural Center (AWAACC) is proud to present the Hip-Hop Art Camp, a two-part workshop series designed to inspire creativity and connect young artists aged 10-16 to the roots of hip-hop culture through visual expression. Sessions will be held Saturday, October 25 and Saturday, November 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at AWAACC, located at 980 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA.

Led by acclaimed artist Juliandra Jones, the camp will guide participants on a journey from graffiti writing to legal public art. Students will explore the history of hip-hop, study the work of female artists and Pittsburgh-based writers-turned-muralists, and develop their own personal tags. Participants will also learn how artists scale their work for large murals and design their own community-based projects.

Camp fees are $25 per individual session or $45 for a two-session bundle. Each participant will receive a swag bag, and light snacks will be provided.

“This program is a chance for young people to experience the power of hip hop art as both a personal expression and a community-building tool,” said Cathryn Calhoun, Director of Education and Community Engagement at AWAACC. “We are thrilled to welcome Juliandra Jones, whose artistry and teaching reflect the collaborative and transformative spirit of hip-hop.”

The Hip-Hop Art Camp is part of a series of youth engagement and education programming developed by AWAACC that includes Hip-Hop Music Camp and Hip-Hop Dance Camp.
