Nigerian artist Peju Alatise’s sculptural installation “Flying Girls” was one of Pittsburgh’s visual art highlights of the year in 2018. The stunning, room-sized piece made its U.S. debut at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center after winning acclaim a year earlier at the prestigious Venice Biennale. “Flying Girls” has again landed at the AWAACC. But while it’s certainly one highlight of the exhibit “I Will Belong To Only Me,” it’s got plenty of impressive support in this, Alatise’s first U.S. solo survey.
